Optimistic, multi-talented, polysyllabic, absolutely honest and downright funny some days....I am definitely a work in progress.
I fell in love, un coup de foudre, with the mountains and high desert of New Mexico a couple years ago. The light and the big sky, the scent of juniper and pinon in the sun, the wild cries of coyotes running down the arroyo at night all make me purely happy. Being able to be outside so much of the year is a gift.
Unregenerate celt and survivor of the sixties (barely), insatiable (some call addicted) reader and visual learner...I am curious. There's nothing I like much better than learning something new.
If I had to define my path, I guess I'd call it eclectic...I'm an empath and a sensitive, with a strong analytical bent to balance the mysticism. There's a great deal in the universe that I don't know, so I have nothing invested in changing your beliefs (though if you are rabidly fundamentalist and want to change mine, we will not connect.)
I'm not terribly good at dogma or political correctness. I do not color between the lines.
I am a mix of many things: balanced and kind; intellectually quick and easily perplexed. Don't let the cute persona fool you. As Janiva Magness writes,
"[…] Bold and outspoken, controversial, brazen, rule breaking women who own their own ground. Hussies. Women who won't be bound by social conventions – not for long anyway. Hussies. We laugh hard and cry harder. We love loud, weep and moan, rage and wail till the sun rises, never give up and after that just try again. Both feet in the river, the water rising, while the tide pulls and pushes us through life. The makes me one. Hussy. Not afraid of my age, my truth. Most of my girlfriends are Hussies too. […] Here's hoping you've got a least one in your life, either living next door, down the street, in your own house… or maybe even inside."
You may get a better sense of some of the things that move me, amuse me, interest me by reading some of my blog. Be welcome.
My Ideal Person:
I seem at present to be searching for deep friends. Perhaps I'll be surprised by someone, but friendship seems a good place from which to grow a lasting relationship. It may take time.
Be inquiring, and with a thirst for learning that remains undimmed and unspoiled by what you've learned already. Be ready to laugh aloud at the tricks the universe plays. Appreciate paradox.
Unrepentant honesty, the grace of kindness, compassion and a keen sense of the absurd are all heplful attributes.
I love stories, and how they intertwine...I want to hear yours.
- The last great book I read
Desert Solitaire Last Cheater's Waltz Nabokov's Blues The Four Agreements Beowulf (Heaney's translation) Elizabeth Hand's Saffron and Brimstone McPhee's Annals of a Former World
I am rarely without a book. I read a lot, more than most people
would believe possible, and my tastes are eclectic and
far-ranging, from science writing to science fiction
to history and poetry and memoir. Short stories have me
hooked right now.
- My most humbling moment
In my day job, I care for critically ill folk. I am made aware
each day of the important things, and how petty are so many
of my little quotidian concerns. I suppose that is "humbling".
I prefer to consider it gratitude-inducing.
- Favorite on-screen sex scene
The opening of Don Juan de Marcos....yup, hands really
are that sensitive!
- The celebrity I resemble the most
Jeanann Garofolo...or a small Dawn French
- The best or worst lie I've ever told
This will only hurt a little bit...
- If I could be anywhere right now
Happy to be here in New Mexico..... I dream of light. Non-inclusively, there is much of the world to explore
yet, but I'd love to spend a season or a year in southern
or southwestern France (Haute Provence or the Limousin)
relearning French and hanging out. Devon is magical: I
could spend lots more time there or in the southwest of Scotland.
I'm not much of a brief tourist. I prefer going to ground
and actually staying in a place for long enough to get a sense
of it.
- Five items I can't live without
books (and reading glasses), friends of the heart, animal
companions, imagination, compassion
- Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier.
honesty is sexy; compassionate honesty is sexier
- In my bedroom one will find...
books: books under the bed, next to the bed, sometimes IN
the bed under the pillows. Candles, plants, wonderful
sheets and down comforter. Art on the walls. Did I mention
books?
