Hello. I'm 55 and a widow. That in itself is an amazing statement. That my husband died 4 years ago still amazes me. I spent a year and change grieving and took early retirement when the county offered a "golden finger" incentive. On my second day of retirement my re-awakening to life and living began with my first WATSU-a shiatsu-type massage given in a warm-water pool. The incredibly positive effects of that treatment were immediate and apparent to all who knew me. I was positively giddy-so happy to be alive and so grateful for everything.
SO. Now that I'm somewhat back on terra firma I really do want it all-friendship, play, dating, and a seriously fun relationship. What I'd really like is to be PRESENT in this life-open to new experiences, adventures, any and everything that comes my way.
I know now that I'll be OK and I'm eager to see how it all plays out. It's just that, for me, having company would make the journey much more interesting, rewarding, and a lot more fun.
For the past few years I have volunteered for political and labor-related organizations. I am a big "D" Democrat trying to make change for the better. We have our work cut out for us.
I am a life-long lover of art in it's many forms, occasionally make art and may eventually go back to college as an art major. I spent 2 weeks in Japan in April as part of a Sister City Tour and in June made my 3rd annual trek to Ashland Ore for a week of plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (saw 3 Shakespeare and 3 contemporary), enjoyed some great meals and lovely Oregon wine with friends, among other doings.
I am independantly middle class, have no children but do like them, am considered short by today's standards (5'2 and shrinking), more voluptuous than I'd like but am working on that, try to always be honest and open and have a very silly, sometimes outrageous sense of humor. If you get to know me better I may even tell you my infamous Lentil Soup story.
If you are looking for someone who is smart enough to know how much she doesn't know then you may want to get to know me.
My Ideal Person:
Breathing. A man who is breathing would be nice.
Actually, it would be such a thrill to find someone who would be lost without me, and I him. Someone who can make me laugh and make me whole and with whom the whole will be greater than the sum of it's parts.
So to get to the heart of the matter, I would love to find a GOOD man who possesses a sense of HUMOR, curiosity and openness to new ideas and experiences, TENDERNESS, strength and an UNDERSTANDING HEART. Everything else is easy.
- The last great book I read
My all-time fave is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Here are afew more recent greats: The Lovely Bones- Alice
Sebold, Possessing the Secret of Joy-Alice Walker, Love
Medicine-Louise Erdrich, almost all of Anne Tyler's
library, the essays of Anna Quindlen, Don DeLillo's
Libra, old-time favorite authors Charles Dickens and
Mark Twain, and newer, humorous to hilarious authors such
as siblings Amy and David Sedaris.
- My most humbling moment
After ten days in a coma my husband opened his eyes, looked
at me, SAW ME, looked past me, SAW SOMETHING, got IT, smiled
his quirky sideways smile, closed his eyes, took a few more
breaths and then just stopped. That's when I knew for
SURE that there is MORE after we stop BEING in this life.
- Favorite on-screen sex scene
It was from a Scandinavian film which I'd seen several
years back at the Cinequest Film Festival. The title escapes
me but the man was a 40 year old farmer and a virgin. He had
hired the woman to keep house for him. Unlike that other
movie about a 40 yr- old virgin, this one wasn't played
for laughs and was very sexy and VERY emotional.
- The best or worst lie I've ever told
I'll never tell.
- Five items I can't live without
Laughter, friendship, water, passion-this includes
sub-topic a: some really great SEX at least once a YEAR (increased
from 'once a decade' after a quick calculation
done on ONE HAND! Still not too much to ask) and sub-topic
b: ART (for me ART is LIFE!), compassion.
- Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier.
Attraction is sexy; desire is sexier.
- In my bedroom one will find...
Several paintings, a Sudoku Puzzle book, novels, 3 glass
hearts, various lotions for various parts of the body,
the ashes of my beloved cats Leona and Kitty Carlysle, lots
of clothes and unmatched (though clean) socks strewn about.
